Activists Demand Justice Following Murder of Berta Cáceres

Following the murder of prominent Indigenous human rights activist, Berta Caceres, environmental and humanitarian groups from around the world have called for an independent investigation into her death. Threats to her life were known, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights had previously called upon the Honduran govergment to put protections in place. She was known for her stance against “Agua Zarca” four dams in the Gualcarque river basin, one of the largest hydropower projects in Central America and spent her life defending natural resources from privatization processes. Protesters and human rights groups alike have highlighted the human rights violations that exist within Honduras and her family has called for an independent investigation to be conducted -  one that is not led by the Honduran government.
